11+ tests

What parents
need to know.

There is no single national 11+ test. Different grammar schools, local authorities, independent schools and school groups use different providers, subjects, timings and question formats.

We help prepare for the core skills and question styles commonly used across major 11+ routes.

How we help

FPA is not an official test provider and does not try to recreate proprietary admissions tests. Instead, we build transferable skills through Maths reasoning and problem solving, reading comprehension and vocabulary, verbal reasoning, non-verbal and spatial reasoning, timed test practice and clear feedback.

Always check the latest information from the school, consortium or local authority your child is applying to.

GL Assessment and GL-based 11+ tests

How we help

We practise Maths, Reading/English, Verbal Reasoning and NVR & Spatial, helping children become more comfortable with timed multiple-choice reasoning and test-style questions.

Important

The exact subjects, timings and question mix differ between local authorities and schools. FPA is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by GL Assessment.

CEM / Cambridge Select

How we help

We build the underlying Maths, language, verbal-reasoning and non-verbal/spatial skills relevant to this kind of selective assessment.

Important

Cambridge does not provide or endorse commercial practice materials for Cambridge Select Insight. FPA does not claim to replicate Cambridge Select, predict its scores or reproduce its content.

ISEB Common Pre-Tests

How we help

We practise English, Mathematics, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning and build familiarity with the broad skills children need.

Important

FPA is not an adaptive replica of the ISEB Pre-Tests and is not affiliated with ISEB.

Kent Test

How we help

Our four core areas closely overlap with the knowledge and reasoning skills used in the Kent Test.

Important

Parents should always use Kent County Council's current information for exact arrangements, dates and scoring.

Buckinghamshire Secondary Transfer Test

How we help

Our Maths, Reading, VR and NVR & Spatial programme gives broad preparation across verbal, mathematical and non-verbal skill areas.

Important

FPA does not reproduce the Buckinghamshire test or provide a Buckinghamshire qualification or prediction score.

West Midlands grammar-school entrance tests

How we help

English, Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Mathematics align strongly with our core weekly programme.

Important

Admissions arrangements, catchment rules and qualifying scores are separate from preparation. Check current authority and school information.

CSSE 11+

How we help

Our Reading/English and Maths work supports the core skills needed for this route.

Important

VR and NVR are useful wider 11+ skills but are not currently part of the CSSE examination format.

London Consortium / Quest

How we help

Our core programme develops many of the foundation skills used within this type of assessment.

Important

FPA is not affiliated with the London 11+ Consortium or Quest Assessments and does not reproduce Quest's adaptive system, question bank or scoring.

Other independent-school and school-specific tests

How we help

A strong foundation in Maths, Reading/English, VR and NVR/Spatial gives children transferable preparation for many routes.

Important

Always check the school's own admissions information before deciding what specific preparation is needed.

So which test should my child prepare for?

Start with the school or schools you are considering. Check:

  1. which test or provider they use;
  2. which subjects are included;
  3. whether the test is paper-based or online;
  4. whether it is adaptive;
  5. timings and question format;
  6. registration and test dates;
  7. any school-specific second stage, writing task or interview.

We then help with the part that transfers across many routes: building the core knowledge, reasoning, test familiarity and confidence children need for 11+ preparation.

Ready to give it a go?

One manageable weekly routine. Four core 11+ subjects. Clear feedback to help you decide what to practise next.
